Saints Row: The Third might just have been launched in the United States but the developers at Volition are already thinking about the future and whether they might start work on another game in the franchise.

Speaking to VG247 Scott Phillips, who is the lead designer at Volition working on Saints Row: The Third, has stated, “The only announced project we have right now is inSane. I think, depending on, of course, review scores and on sales of Saints Row: The Third, you can logically assume there might be future projects in that franchise.”

He believes that a lot will ride on the commercial success of the current release and on how the executives at THQ see the future of the franchise.

Phillips also talked a little about inSane, the collaboration with Guillermo del Toro, the well known director, which is set to be launched during 2013.

He said, “We have two floors in the building, and they’re on the other floor, so I don’t get to see what they’re doing too often. I get to see concept art, that’s for sure, and I think the concept’s art looking fantastic.”

Danny Bilson, who is the vice president in charge of core gaming content at publisher THQ, has said that his company has a lot of confidence in the future of the Saints Row brand and suggested that a new game is already in the first stages of development.

Saints Row is a very important franchise for THQ and has managed to create a niche for itself, separate from the realism that has become to dominate the rival Grand Theft Auto series from Rockstar and Take Two.

The THQ and Volition series has, for the last two games, emphasized the mayhem that players can create in the game world and the mad touches made to most of the characters.

European gamers will be able to play Saints Row: The Third on Friday.
