The team will deliver a full blown musical number in the expansion

The development team at Volition surprised many fans of the open world series when it announced that it was working on a new standalone expansion for Saints Row IV, called Gat Out of Hell, rather than a full blown sequel, and impressed many when it revealed that it was literally asking players to battle the Devil in order to save the soul of the main character.

And now the developers are saying that much of the inspiration for the new title has been drawn from the animated movies that Disney produces.

Steve Jaros, the creative director at Volition, is quoted by Destructoid as saying that “I'm pretty certain that we'll be the only open-world game that comes out with a full-blown musical number in the middle of the critical path.”

The basic premise of Gat Out of Hell is that Satan chooses the leader of the Saints as a worthy husband for his daughter Jezebel and plans to have him as the general that will lead his armies against Heaven.

The plan does not work out and Johnny Fat and Kinzie Kensington need to go down to the fiery pit in order to battle the Devil and his demons to get back the soul of their leader.

The game includes wings, weapons based on the seven deadly sins and a special meter which will activate core story moments when it fills up.

It seems that at least one of them will be a musical number that involves the unique experience of fighting in Hell.

Jaros adds, “I'm a big Disney fan. For instance, if you remember stuff like in Sleeping Beauty or Cinderella, the beginning of the movies has the ornate story book that opens up. It's illuminated text and story-book pictures, and a narrator -- that's kind of our story structure. Jane Austen narrates you through this fairy tale; Jezebel is very much a sort of Disney princess.”

The Volition developer says that his team is not simply creating a parody but aiming to replicate some of the classic Disney concepts in a much darker and violent setting.

Gat Out of Hell will be launched in January of next year, and at the same time, gamers will be able to get a special Re-Elected version of Saints Row IV which will arrive on the Xbox One from Microsoft and the PlayStation 4 from Sony.

Volition is also actively working on a full sequel for the open world series, which will probably be revealed later in 2015.
