Wireless carrier Vodafone is set to put an end to data abuse on their network. Or at least this is what the company claims to be the reason for which it will charge its customers an extra £5 for each 500 MB of data over the initial 500 MB. This measure is being put in place for users that have monthly bundles, and should start being applied come June 1. At the same time, the wireless operator announced that it would kick off a real time notifications system, so as to let customers know how much data they consume.

[admark=1]“We are planning to introduce Out Of Bundle charging for Pay Monthly customers from 1st June 2010. The reason we're introducing these charges is to make it fairer for everyone, and to protect our network from data abuse. We're introducing a real-time notifications service to be completely transparent about these charges and keep customers in control of their spend. No Out Of Bundle charges will happen this month but they will take effect from 1st June. The messages you've received this month were sent in error and no more will be sent out from today,” a recent post on the company's forums reads.

Each customers who has a monthly bundle will have to pay £5 for every 500MB after the first 500MB, the blog post notes, adding that those without such bundles will have to pay 50p for every 10MB after the first 25MB. According to the wireless carrier, its Vodafone Mobile Internet costs page does state that the company will watch the manner in which users take advantage of their data bundle, and that they will be offered solutions in case they go over the 500MB Flexi or Value Pack limit.

For what it's worth, this measure will certainly make at least some Vodafone customers unhappy. Other carriers in the country offer much better deals when it comes to data usage on their networks. Up until now, Vodafone customers were able to enjoy the service on the company's airwaves without any Out Of Bundle charging, but it seems that those times will come to an end on June 1.
