Although it was the very first Windows Phone 8 handset to be officially unveiled to the world, Samsung’s ATIV S smartphone appears to be the last to arrive on shelves.

However, users around the world will be able to purchase it before the end of this year, and those living in the UK are certain to do that.

The Samsung ATIV S is already available for pre-order in the country, with contract agreements with wireless carrier Vodafone UK, though being sold via partner retailer Phones4U.

The company lists the Windows Phone 8 smartphone on its website as available for free on the £33 per month plan, with 500MB of monthly mobile data and 2GB of WiFi data. For a £34 per month plan, however, users will grab the phone for £29.99.

Users interested in the new device will find it listed on the retailer’s website on this page, with all the pricing options next to it and with a delivery date of December 21.

The Samsung ATIV S was made official with a large 4.8” super AMOLED HD (720 x 1280 pixel) screen on the front, as well as with a powerful 1.5GHz dual-core processor packed inside.

The phone also sports 1GB of RAM, as well as 16/32 GB of internal memory options, and a MicroSD memory card slot with support for up to 32GB of additional storage space.

On the back, the handset features an 8-megapixel photo snapper with support for full HD video recording, complemented by a 1.9 MP camera on the front for making video calls.

The smartphone also sports HSDPA, 42 Mbps; HSUPA, 5.76 Mbps connectivity, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, Wi-Fi hotspot, Wi-Fi Direct, DLNA, Bluetooth, NFC, microUSB, GPS receiver, and the like.

And there is also support for various services and apps available for Windows Phone. “Couple this with a wealth of multimedia chops and the ATIV S shapes up well when it comes to devouring digital content,” Phones4U notes.
