Today, UK wireless carrier Vodafone has officially confirmed plans to add the Samsung Galaxy S5 smartphone to its offering, and it has also unveiled that the Gold flavor of the device will be available exclusively on its network at launch.

Galaxy S5, the latest flagship smartphone from South Korean mobile phone maker Samsung, will become available for pre-order in the UK on March 28, and Vodafone’s customers interested in grabbing it will also be able to reserve it starting with that day.

The handset was made official at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona last month and is set to arrive on shelves around the world on April 11, Samsung has announced.

Galaxy S5 comes to the market with a variety of hardware improvements when compared to last year’s Galaxy S4 flagship, but it also provides users with a new design, with a perforated back plate for better grip.

According to James White, Samsung Mobile’s head of IM Strategy & Mobile Product Marketing, the design is one of the main aspects that drives the purchase of a smartphone in today’s market, and the new handset should appeal a lot to users from this perspective.

“I think design is still one of the most important purchase decision-makers that we hear from our consumers. We’ve evolved the design with the Galaxy S5 so that it follows on naturally from the Galaxy S4 but, we’ve also introduced some new elements,” he said, according to a post on Vodafone's blog.

“We’ve focussed on a ‘modern glam’ look for our design inspiration for the new Galaxy S5. That’s represented in the four colours we’ve got available, as well as the introduction of texture.”

However, there’s more to Galaxy S5 than the outer design, including the fact that Samsung has announced it with IP67 rated water and dust resistance, as well as with features such as a fingerprint scanner in the home button and a heart rate monitor on the back.

For those out of the loop, we should note that Galaxy S5 was announced with a 5.1-inch full HD touchscreen display, as well as with a 2.5GHz quad-core Snapdragon 801 processor packed inside.

Moreover, the phone features 2GB of RAM, 16GB of internal memory, and a microSD memory card slot for expansion purposes. Samsung announced with it support for worldwide LTE networks as well.

On the back, the new flagship phone sports a 16-megapixel camera capable of recording videos in 4K resolution, which is paired with a 2MP front camera for making video calls.

The usual set of connectivity capabilities and sensors was also included inside the phone, along with Google’s Android 4.4.2 KitKat operating system. Moreover, Galaxy S5 features the latest version of Samsung’s TouchWiz user interface.
