Apple's iPad was unveiled officially to the world about two weeks ago, and a series of rumors regarding the availability of the device on the lineup of various carriers around the world already emerged, with only one wireless operator confirming plans to go for the tablet. Vodafone UK is the latest mobile phone carrier in the country to have included the Apple iPhone in its offering, and now it confirms that it is also looking for a deal with Apple on the launch of the iPad.
According to a recent
article on pcadvisor.co.uk, Vodafone Chief Executive Vittorio Colao said that the wireless operator was very interested in having the Apple iPad available for its users.
The tablet device is expected to become available for purchase in the UK next month, but only with Wi-Fi capabilities on board, while the 3G-enabled model should land only in April.
“I have not, personally, touched one but I really look forward to it. I believe it is going to be another important piece of the - mobile - data experience. I think anything that improves the customer experience with
mobile data is welcome and as such I would be very interested in having it,” is what Colao reportedly stated.
Vodafone might be successful with the launch of the iPad in the UK, considering that reports suggested it managed to sell around 100,000 iPhone units during the first week of availability of the device on its airwaves last month. For the time being, Apple hasn't announced anything on its plans regarding the availability of the iPad in the UK, and only said that
the device would land at AT&T in the United States.
“International carrier availability to be announced. 3G data plan may be sold separately,” is what Apple notes regarding these plans. However, it should be noted that various carriers in the country have been already rumored to aim at bringing the device to the UK market, and that some were said to have already ordered
micro SIM cards that would fit with the device.
