Vodafone India Launches Mobile Application Store Powered by Appia

More than 145 million Vodafone India subscribers will have access to the carrier's new Mobile Application Store powered by Appia.

The app store provides access to over 10,000 free and paid applications for almost any handset that is available one the market, including Android, Java, Symbian and Blackberry.

The application will be sorted by popular categories such as games, entertainment, social networking and local culture.

In addition, the catalog also includes a huge collection of content from local providers, including Hungama, India Games, Nazara, Spice, and Vodafone-branded apps such as Vodafone TV, Portfolio Tracker and Chhota Comics.

We are excited to partner with Appia to offer this new mobile Application Store to Vodafone subscribers. The store will present the best the world has to offer in mobile applications, giving Vodafone subscribers an expansive catalog of games and apps to entertain and enrich their lives,” said Kumar Ramanathan, Chief Marketing Officer, Vodafone India Ltd.

Vodafone India subscribers who want to download and install third-party apps on their phones can access the carrier's application store must SMS to 111 from their handsets and click on the link in the reply.

Additionally, subscribers can simply log in to live.vodafone.in and click the Vstore link on the Vodafone Live homepage.

Vodafone's mobile application storefront content is provided by Appia, along with the “end-to-end managed service platform for storefront merchandising and commerce.”

According to Appia, Vodafone India's store currently supports over 3,500 different devices, but offers optimization for each subscriber’s specific handset, regardless of the operating system.
