Windows Phone Mango, the next version of Microsoft's mobile operating system, has been long rumored to be on its way to existing devices as soon as this week, and it appears that things might actually pan out in the end.

The platform was said not too long ago to have been set for release as a software update on September 15th, and some of the wireless carriers around the world who already have Windows phone devices available for their users are already ready for the upgrade.

Australian mobile phone carrier Vodafone is one of them, and the company has already informed its customers on the matter.

On their blog, the carrier posts weekly updates on the various new software that should be released for its smartphones, and the last post mentions Windows Phone Mango as well.

HTC 7 Trophy is the mobile phone that should receive the new software update, which is to arrive with build number 7.10.7720.68.

The carrier also notes that “testing for Windows Phone 'Mango' firmware update has been completed and approved,” and that they are currently “awaiting deployment from Microsoft.”

All in all, it appears that it might not be too long before the roll-out of Windows Phone Mango begins, though we should wait for Microsoft to make an official announcement to know for sure.

Undoubtedly, September 15th sounds more and more like the most probable release date for Mango, though new handsets running under the platform might not be released before October is here.

We already had the chance to have a look at the first Mango-based smartphones, as HTC brought its new such devices to the IFA 2011 show in Berlin, but a solid release date for them has not been confirmed until now.

Until more on this emerges, we should be keeping an eye out for the Mango update, which appears to be only a few days away, and which should deliver a nice range of enhancements to end-users. (via)
