Reducing the cost of roaming in Europe

Mobile operator Vodafone has announced that customers in Europe are going to be able to surf the Internet, check their e-mail or access their business network when roaming abroad for a flat rate fee of as little as ?12 for every day of use.

The ones that will be able to take advantage of this offer are Vodafone customers that own a mobile-enabled laptop computer. The offering will become available starting the first of July this year and it will significantly lower the cost of data roaming for both business customers and consumers.

The new tariff replaces the complex 'per Megabyte' tariffs with a simple flat fee for what can most likely be described as unlimited data usage. It enables customers to send or receive data within a 24 hour period for a fixed fee of ?12 (price that excludes VAT). The fee will cover a 24 hour period with up to 50MB of data after which the standard per-megabyte fee will be applied.

The mobile operator is going to launch the tariff across most of its European footprint, including its principal European markets starting the 1st of July. As in the case of Vodafone Passport, there is no activation charge for opting for this tariff.

Commenting on the new tariff, Arun Sarin, Chief Executive, Vodafone, said: "Following the success of our Passport service, which has made it cheaper and simpler to call home over the past two years, we are now applying the same principles of value and simplicity for customers who need to access their corporate intranets, business e-mail or surf the web when they are abroad."
