I was really wondering who was going to be the one who says it first, and finally I have my answer. The Spice Girls, people, can't sing live - and the whole irony of that is that they're just about to embark on a world tour in which they're supposed to perform - well, LIVE. It's not exactly shocking news but it does make me wonder what is going to happen during their tour. I mean, we're not asking any questions here, we know - at least in the case of one of the girls, and I'm talking about Geri.
Ginger Spice decided she needed her (ahem) voice trained and hired a vocal coach for the upcoming Spice Girls reunion, which is to kick off in Vancouver on December 2nd. The voice coach is a legitimate, really famous one in Britain and her name is Zoe Tyler (
you can check out her website here). Well, you can imagine that a voice coach will not sugarcoat any of her observations, and here is what she had to say about Ginger Spice.
"Geri can't sing live. She is s**t but she knows she is. At least she is realistic. She admits she is not a great singer but she is determined to give the best possible performance she can. We have been working together a lot and she has been working incredibly hard". Well, I don't think it can get any worse than a voice coach telling you you're s**t when you sing live, but at least now she has no illusion whatsoever left, and a little bit of modesty (especially among the media frenzy the Spice Girls have been stirring up lately) never hurt anyone.
"Geri is thrilled to have her own little solo spot on the tour. Not all of the girls do, so it is a great chance for her to stand out. She has a great routine worked out but she is worried her voice will let her down". From this, I can only deduce that when she says "not all of the girls do" she means Victoria. By the way, any news on that little solo she is said to be doing in the Girls' new song "Headlines"? I still haven't managed to spot it. And I do have one last question: if a voice coach thinks Geri is s**t, I wonder what she'd have to say about Victoria. Now that one would be interesting.
