A new application is now available for download on handsets running under the Symbian operating system, offering them the possibility to benefit from Voice over Internet Protocol, namely the VoX Mobile VoIP Calling App, now available for download via Getjar.com.

The new VoIP application for Symbian mobile phones comes from Vox Communications, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Pervasip Corp.

Through this solution, mobile subscribers can enjoy inexpensive Internet based calling to the US, Canada and Puerto Rico from their country, on mobile VoIP plans as low as $4.95 a month.

With VoX, users can enjoy calling plans as low as two cents a minute, while being able to opt for unlimited plans for less than $25 a month, not to mention that they can choose low-cost international calling plans.

“We posted the Symbian VoIP app on Getjar.com for downloading in more than 100 countries and we have already received sign-ups for our app from consumers in several countries,” Pervasip’s Chief Information Officer, Mark Richards, stated.

According to him, the software solution will be available on popular phones like E6x, E7x and N8X series handsets, targeting a number of more than 100 million such devices that should be in circulation at the moment.

“This app is simple and easy to install, and in addition to low-cost mobile calling, it provides users with a second line for inbound and outbound calls, including anonymous call rejection, call blocking and call forwarding,” Richards stated.

He also said that the company is set to expand the support it offers for Symbian phones, and that it is considering more internal development solutions, as well as partnerships with third party developers for bringing the solution to other OSes.

“Our next development or partnering initiative will more than likely be an app that runs on Google’s Android operating system,” he added.

Gartner estimates that more than 80 million Symbian devices were sold during the last year, or around 47 percent of the entire global smartphone market.

This offers great opportunity to developers, since it take for the combined sales of the iPhone, RIM, Windows Mobile and Android to match this figure.
