Huawei was not the only Chinese vendor to have announced a new smartphone this week, as Vivo made a similar move with the introduction of its Vivo Xshot, a smartphone that has been long rumored to arrive on shelves during the first quarter of this year.

The phone went official on Wednesday with a large 5.2-inch touchscreen display that can deliver a full HD resolution, as well as with a series of other hardware specifications that make it an appealing high-end device.

However, unlike the Huawei Ascend P7, the new Vivo Xshot will be released only in China in the beginning, and chances are that it won’t arrive in other markets around the world very soon.

Apparently, Vivo is planning on releasing the new handset in two different flavors, one of which will be priced at 2998 Yuan ($481/€345), while the other is set to cost 3498 Yuan ($561/€403).

Going back to the mobile phone’s hardware specifications, we should note that Vivo has announced it with a 2.5GHz quad-core Snapdragon 801 processor inside, as well as with 3GB of RAM next to it.

Basically, the new handset should be able to provide about the same performance capabilities as the Samsung Galaxy S5, HTC One M8 and other flagship smartphones that arrived on shelves this year.

Vivo Xshot also comes with 32GB of internal memory, as well as with a microSD memory card slot for expansion purposes. Moreover, it sports 4G LTE connectivity, along with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth capabilities, and built-in GPS receiver, as Engadget notes.

The smartphone is powered by a 2600mAh battery, which is non-removable. It was also announced with the Android 4.4 KitKat operating system loaded on top, though the prototype units showcased until now run under Android 4.3 Jelly Bean.

The main selling point of the new device, however, should be its imaging capabilities, which include a 13-megapixel camera on the back, with dual-LED, dual-tone flash, an f/1.8 aperture and Optical Image Stabilization.

On the front, the new device packs an 8-megapixel camera, which comes with its own LED flash, so that users could snap better selfies when compared to what they can do when using other smartphones out there. The front camera can also record videos in 720p HD resolution.

Overall, the new Vivo Xshot sounds like a very appealing device, one that should easily prove highly popular once released in China. However, it remains to be seen whether it will arrive in other markets out there too, and how well it will be received.
