Microsoft has released the Beta development milestone of the first major upgrade for Visual Studio 2010 to members of its developer community. Starting with December 7th, MSDN subscribers were able to download and start testing Visual Studio 2010 Service Pack 1 (SP1) Beta.

As it is usually the case, MSDN subscribers received the Visual Studio 2010 SP1 Beta bits a little earlier compared to the rest of developers, but the public downloads of the testing release are not that far behind.

In fact, Microsoft will make available the public Beta of Visual Studio 2010 SP1 later today through the Download Center. Do keep an eye on Softpedia, and I’ll make sure to provide an update when this happens.

“Since the release of Visual Studio 2010, we've been working to address high priority issues you've brought to our attention through forums like Visual Studio Connect.

“We've also focused on improving the overall experience in a few important areas, such as unit testing, support for GPU acceleration in C++ applications, and offline help,” revealed S. Somasegar, Senior Vice President, Developer Division.

At the time of this article, the public Beta of Visual Studio 2010 had not been released by the software giant. However, it’s December 9th all day today, and the bits are bound to go live soon.

Microsoft’s Senior VP of the Developer Division also underlines that VS2010 is the most successful release of Visual Studio in company history, with strong uptake, although he did not share any numbers with the public.

“Since we launched Visual Studio 2010 and .NET 4 on April 12th of this year, it has been exciting to see the extremely positive response to the product,” Somasegar added.

“Within six months of the launch date, Visual Studio 2010 usage surpassed all other previous versions of Visual Studio based on usage data collected from customers who opted into sharing their usage data with us.

"This is the fastest adoption of a new release of Visual Studio ever, and we are seeing continued strength in the adoption of Visual Studio 2010.”
