Microsoft is gearing up for the availability of the first Beta of the next generation of Visual Studio. The Redmond company confirmed since last week that the Beta development milestone was just around the corner, and fact is that the software giant's suite of development solutions will drop today. Beta 1 availability will come in two waves. The first will be focused on MSDN and TechNet subscribers, while the second will permit access to anyone interested in test driving the successor of Visual Studio 2008.

“On Monday, May 18th, Visual Studio 2010 Beta 1 (Professional, Suite and Team Foundation Server) will be available to MSDN Subscribers through MSDN Subscriber Downloads and to the general public on Wednesday, May 20th through Microsoft Downloads,” revealed Jihad Dannawi, Developer Tools Solution specialist for Microsoft Australia. I checked, and the Visual Studio 2010 Beta 1 bits were not yet live on MSDN or TechNet, at the time of this article. But just keep your eyes on Softpedia and I will make to sure to provide an update once the downloads become available.

Microsoft first introduced Visual Studio 2010 and .NET Framework 4.0 in September 2008. According to the Redmond company, its upcoming developer platform and associated tools are focused on enabling developers to build for the next-generation platform wave, streamline the development process, allowing development to stretch into the Cloud, but also democratizing application life-cycle management.

The past week, when it confirmed that it was wrapping up Visual Studio 2010 Beta 1, the software giant also revealed that it had branded codename “Camano” generalist testing tool as Microsoft Test and Lab Manager. In accordance with this move, generalist testers will also be able to get their hands on the Visual Studio Team Test 2010 Essentials. Visual Studio 2010 Beta 1 is now just hours away.

Update: Download Visual Studio 2010 Beta and .NET Framework 4.0 Beta from MSDN.
