Vista Might Spell Trouble for Microsoft

Microsoft has just announced the name of the future generation of Windows, and a new lawsuit is seems to be already under way.

As it had been rumored a while ago, Longhorn was just a code name, just as Windows XP had been initially called Whistler.

Friday, Microsoft announced that the
next Windows will be known as Windows Vista. The only problem is that the name chosen by the company from Redmond is already owned by an American company based in Seattle, whose name is actually Vista and it's specialized in Internet services.

Currently, the president of Vista, John Wall, is not planning on suing Microsoft, but it remains to be seen whether Microsoft won't be forced to choose another name for the next Windows.

In fact, it seems that Vista is not an wise choice, because VISTA is also the name of an American organization, Volunteers In Service To America and there is also a website that uses that name: VistaPrint.com. In these circumstances, what will Microsoft do?

Hello,

There is a slight spelling (or grammar?) mistake:

"Vista is not an wise choice", should be 'a'.

Not very important...

They should keep things as they are, why change anything, well it just goes to show that Microsoft should do their homework before jumping the gun. I think that they should've came up with their own name, instead of using someone else's. See what happend to the WWF!! they had to change their name after the real WWF took action. Microsoft should learn the same lesson as did the WWWF.

okay i cant possible have any back up if i say microsoft isnt a monopoly cause clearly they are, but i like them. about Vista, i like that name and i understand trademarks and stuff but i think its kind of rediculouse. i mean that one company is called Vista and the one site is VistaPrint. Those are actual companies. Windows Vista is an operating system not a company, Microsoft is a company. I dont see why a lawsuit can be held between a company name and a product name. Their not calling it Vista's Operating Systems. They are not taking ownership of the name Vista they are taking Windows Vista.
