One of the stories posted on Softpedia’s Microsoft news section during the weekend explains that Windows 8 wasn’t, isn’t, and will never be “the new Vista,” as many people like to call it, as recent statistics published by Redmond itself revealed that its modern platform was actually selling very well.

And still, many of our readers apparently think otherwise, with many of the comments published on our social pages pointing out that Windows Vista was actually even better than Windows 8.

Without providing any specific reasons for this statement, many of you explained that Windows 8 brought too many changes to the traditional Windows platform, while Vista, which obviously had its own problems, still featured a Start Menu, Aero, and other popular visual elements.

Of course, there were users who claimed that Windows 8 and 8.1 were the best OS versions released by Microsoft, but the majority emphasized that Windows Vista was “pretty decent.”

Here’s a selection with some of the comments we’ve received throughout the weekend, and feel free to add your own in the comment box after the jump:

“Vista was pretty decent after they released a good portion of updates. Never had too much of a problem with it other than the given old compatibility issues with old programs.” – Diggy Once

“Vista is fabulous, bugged but amazing.” – Chris Lombardo

“Vista was 1 of the worst OS ever but I would rather have that.” – Billy Apple Sommerville

“Why Microsoft does not publicly recognize that Win 8 was a total failure? Why? Do they realize we live in a social media world where a billion people talk to each other every day?” – Gianluca D’Agostino

“I'd rather Vista. At least that led into Windows 7.” – Andre Bynoe

“I'd say it's a bigger failure than Vista because it was more important. It also represented their mobile interface and affects phone and tablet sales.” – Robert Stiles

“Vista was a fine OS, once people cycled out their 2002 era XP hardware and Nvidia got their shoddy drivers under control anyway. Windows 8 is just a train wreck that MS is content to ram into a cliff repeatedly.” – Robert Boluyt

“No, it'll never be the new Vista; it's worse! I'm not into Microsoft products, but I really, really doubt even Microsoft can ever make anything worse than that!” – Arya S. J.

“I actually liked vista... Windows 8 is not even close to it...” – Daniel Kabok
