Today at Tweak Mode I will talk about customizing the icons on your Windows Vista desktop. Bear in mind that I will only refer to the default icons of Windows Vista: Computer, Network,
Recycle Bin, well, you get the idea.
In order to obtain a clean desktop, all you have to do is select all the icons and then hit delete. Or right click one of them, following the selection, and selecting delete. That's fairly simple, isn't it?
But what happens if you want them back? What do you have to do to get them back? In Windows XP you could access Properties, via right clicking the Desktop, and in the Desktop Tab, select Customize Desktop in order to access a panel that offered you control over the Desktop Items.
In Windows Vista, this process has been altered. Right clicking the desktops brings up a menu that has Personalize as the last option. Selecting Personalize will bring up a window that will allow you to customize the appearance and sounds of the operating system. In the left hand side menu, click "Change desktops icons" in order to access the Desktops Icon Settings.
Computer, User's Files, Network, Recycle Bin, Internet Explorer and Control Panel all have check boxes next to them. Checking the boxes will either enable or disable the respective icons.
Of course that hunting down the Vista features via the Start Menu, right clicking them and choosing the "Show on desktop" option is still a viable alternative. Additionally, this way you will also be able to add an icon of Home Directory on the Windows Vista desktop.
Handle with care!
