Microsoft is currently testing Vista build 6.0.5920.16384 in house

I must confess that I was rather skeptical about this piece of news. But it proved to be as accurate as possible. A post RC2 Build of Windows Vista has leaked on the Internet. As Windows Vista RC2 was, according to Microsoft, the last public release of the operating system prior to the code going gold, a leakage is the only logical explanation for the Vista 5840.

Now, Microsoft has postponed going to RTM with Vista until November 8 from an initial release to manufacturing date of October 25 due to a critical flaw in the operating system that prevented upgrades from XP in particular circumstances but also rendered XP inoperable. Recently, you could read right here on Softpedia that Microsoft is planning the launching event of the year on November 23 in Canada where it will unveil Windows Vista, Office Suite 2007 and Microsoft Exchange Server 2007.

Currently, the Redmond Company is testing in house Vista build 6.0.5920.16384, and the internal version Windows Vista 6.0 will be the code to RTM on November 8. But build 5840 is currently in Escrow and also a candidate to become the Golden build (RTM). Windows Vista Pre-RTM Build 5840, as I have said, is out there. You only need to look for it. Since it is not an official Microsoft release, I am unable to redirect you to it, but I am sure that you can figure it out for yourselves. Also, stressing that it is not an official Microsoft release, you may want to exercise a certain degree of caution when handling it. I have provided a screenshot here just to have you make an idea about it.
