A recent job posting for an environment artist on Gamasutra indicates that Electronic Arts' Visceral Games is working on a sequel to Dante's Inferno. While the description does not specifically mention Dante's Inferno 2, it says that the future employee will be working on a sequel to an intellectual property that is backed by the EA Games label. The job announcement discloses that the game will be developed for the Xbox 360 and the PS3, another fact that contributes to the speculation that the assignment is not for Dead Space 2, as this one is set to be released also for the PC.

What makes one sure that Visceral is looking for someone to work on the next Dante's Inferno title is the fact that it is stated that Visceral and its publisher, EA, intend that the sequel “set new quality standards and make the franchise the world-leader in the action/melee-combat genre.”

Jonathan Knight, the producer of Dante's Inferno, has publicly expressed his wish to make a sequel in an interview with G4 . As to what this might consist of, adding to the fact that the literary work of art the game is based on was exhausted in the first installment of the series, Knight said he would like “to solve [this problem] by earning the right to do a follow up.” It looks like EA will grant his wish and let him take on the God of War series yet again.

Visceral Games is hard at work now on the sequel to the critically acclaimed Dead Space. It is planned for release in Spring 2011 for the Xbox 360, the PS3 and the PC and it continues Isaac Clarke's story three years after the first iteration. Unlike the first title, Dead Space 2 will contain a multiplayer component.
