Developer Visceral Games and publisher Electronic Arts have announced that they are working on a new Army of Two video game, called The Devil’s Cartel, which is designed to reboot the shooter series.

Army of Two: The Devil’s Cartel will take gamers to the street of Mexico as operatives Alpha and Bravo, who are part of a Private Military Company called Tactical Worldwide Operations.

The core of the game will be based on familiar shooter mechanics but the new development team at Visceral Games will focus more on shifting allegiances and on betrayal.

The new Army of Two video game will offer players the ability to play cooperatively with their friends both via online and split-screen mechanics.

The game also introduces a number of customization options, allowing gamers to change aspects of their masks and their weapons in order to create the perfect team of mercenaries.

Julian Beak, the executive producer at Visceral Games, stated when the new game was announced that, “We wanted to refresh the Army of TWO franchise for a new generation of action gamers, and at the same time, stay true to the core concept that really made the first two games fan favorites. With meaningful, seamless co-op gameplay at its core and explosive new tag-team features, gamers will have to work together tactically and strategically as they push through a city dominated by one of Mexico’s deadliest drug cartels.”

Steve Papoutsis, the general manager of Visceral Games, added, “Our goal with Army of TWO The Devil’s Cartel is to apply our key design principles – immersive, challenging gameplay, intense narrative and focus on quality – to help improve a franchise we feel has always had a lot of potential.”

Army of Two: The Devil’s Cartel will be launched during March 2013 on the PlayStation 3 from Sony and on the Xbox 360 from Microsoft.
