Video game developer Visceral Games and publisher Electronic Arts are giving fans of the upcoming Battlefield Hardline an update on the state of the project and are asking them to be ready to contribute to the development process by offering feedback on core mechanics in the coming months.

The official blog post features information coming from leading multiplayer designer Thad Sasser, who says that the studio is using the extra development time to improve the experience based on the comments made by members of the community.

He explains that "Our multiplayer development process is all about getting something in the game and iterating on it until it’s awesome. 'Iterating' means implementing it, playing it, listening to player feedback, and making changes based on those opinions. We then try out those changes, again with an eye towards player feedback, and then repeat the process."

Gamescom 2014 allowed Visceral Games to test Battlefield Hardline with some of the most dedicated players in Europe, and the company says that 17,655 people tested both Hotwire and Rescue, two of the new game modes.

Another 2,000 gamers played in the EA Community Lounge and tested their skills against members of the development team, allowing them to gather important info about the way Battlefield Hardline can evolve.

A focus on quality

Battlefield Hardline was supposed to arrive this fall but the companies working on it have decided to push it back to 2015 in order to increase the quality of both single and multiplayer modes.

Visceral adds, "I’ve seen some comments skeptical of us being able to create a competitive-focused mode – I think that’s healthy! Help us understand what challenges you see ahead for the competitive Rescue mode. The development team and the players have a unique opportunity to work together and craft a fun new experience for all of us to play, so let’s make sure to take advantage of this!"

Battlefield Hardline will get a second beta in the winter of this year, but the development team has not said which maps and modes will be included and how many gamers will be invited to take part.

The single-player portion of the game is apparently inspired by both Hollywood movies and network television dramas.

For the multiplayer, the development team is aiming to create a more dynamic experience which involves a smaller number of players and focuses on the asymmetrical battles gangs and law enforcement officials.
