Recently, a new virus scanner, Arcabit, has been included on the list of products checking malware submitted to online service VirusTotal.

Arcabit is an antivirus solution from Poland that packs technology for protecting against threats downloaded from the Internet as well as added via malicious attachments. The premium product includes anti-spam, parental control, firewall, registry and system monitoring tools, as well as a scanner for HTTP traffic.

The security solution relies on two scanning engines, one licensed from Bitdefender and one of its own creation, which touts rapid response for new threats.

According to the company’s description, “Arcabit uses advanced cloud solutions to identify trends in malware development and to ensure an early response to new threats.”

Although Arcabit has been added to the list, the total number of scanners available on VirusTotal remains pinned to the same amount as before, because one of the entries has been removed from the service.

In a blog post on Friday, Julio Canto, core developer of the service, announced that Norman antivirus from Blue Coat was pulled out by the company.

“Blue Coat has decided to retire Norman Scanner Engine as an active OEMable AV scanner engine so it will not be shown in VirusTotal reports,” Canto said.

Arcabit has been integrated into the service and is ready to check malicious files.
