Mac security expert Intego has some good news for iDevice owners concerned about malware. The company has introduced a new version of Intego VirusBarrier iOS that sports new features, a more intuitive user interface, and a new one-time price of $0.99.

VirusBarrier iOS 1.4 improves usability by allowing users to view the most common document types directly from the app right after they’ve been scanned. The new user interface is also a welcome change.

Once the user receives an email attachment, he/she can choose to open it with VirusBarrier.

“If the scan comes up clean, our integrated file reader will open the document for quick and easy viewing, or you can send the file to a remote location such as Dropbox for storage,” says Intego.

Should any malware be found present in the downloaded file, the user can fetch details and even report the malware to Intego, thus helping the company bolster its virus definitions.

Currently, VirusBarrier iOS can scan files on the device, files attached to emails, and files accessed from Dropbox, WebDAV, FTP shares, and other remote locations.

The subscription-based Intego VirusBarrier iOS has been replaced by a one-time download of $0.99 / €0.79 in the iTunes App Store.

Intego advises iPhone and iPad owners to consider the purchase, arguing that it’s “cheaper than the cost of a cup of coffee nowadays (unless it’s really bad coffee…).”

“You only pay once and can update the app with the newest malware definitions for free to ensure that you’re always protected from the latest, most current Mac and Windows threats,” says the company.

“We feel the price is a good value to ensure your attachments are safe and won’t pass any icky crap onto your home computer, your laptop, or your friends’ computers,” Intego adds.
