Oracle has announced today, May 7, the immediate availability for download and testing of the third Beta version of the forthcoming VirtualBox 5.0 cross-platform virtualization software for GNU/Linux, Mac OS X, and Microsoft Windows operating systems.

According to the release notes, VirtualBox 5.0 Beta 3 fixes guest-to-host mouse mapping issues for Ubuntu 12.04 LTS (Precise Pangolin), Linux Mint, and Solaris guests, as well as some problems with resizing in OpenSuSE 10.3 guests.

The volume control has been improved, SB16 playback has been repaired, listening for IPv6 network protocols now works better on some systems, support for hotplug of SATA optical devices has been implemented, and high-speed USB devices work properly.

The new Encryption functionality received some attention in this new Beta release of VirtualBox 5.0 as well, such as handling of encryption errors and encryption progress reflection. In addition, unavailable menu actions are now properly disabled in the GUI.

There are also fixes for Shared Folders and Snapshots

VirtualBox 5.0 Beta 3 fixes a crash in the Shared Folders functionality that occurred when removing a shared folder while the virtual machine was running, revamps Guest Control, and fixes a couple of issues in the Snapshots functionality.

Moreover, transfers can now be properly canceled when using drag and drop, errors are now being properly reported when attempting to save the virtual machine's settings instead of dead-locking, and importing of appliances that don't have attached hard disks now works correctly.

As usual, you can download VirtualBox 5.0 Beta 3 for Linux, Mac OS X, and Microsoft Windows operating systems right now from Softpedia. Please keep in mind that this is a pre-release version that contains unresolved issues, which means that it's not recommended for deployment in production environments.
