Oracle made available the first beta build for the next major release for VirtualBox, 4.2. The list of changes includes new features, as well as repairs.

GUI-related, the developer improves the management of virtual machines by adding the possibility to group them up. Also, the interface will allow you to alter some settings during runtime.

The new release brings to the table support for up to 36 network cards, in combination with an ICH9 chipset configuration.

Currently in experimental stage is support for “drag and drop” action between host and a Linux guest for easier file transfers between the two environments.

Among the list of new features there is also the possibility to start virtual machines automatically after startup. However, this has been added only for Linux, OS X and Solaris host systems.
