The new Samsung Galaxy Nexus smartphone is set to make an appearance on the market in Canada in the near future, and wireless carrier Virgin Mobile will have it available on its network.

The carrier has just gone official with plans to add the new smartphone to its offering, and announced that users can already register for receiving updates on the phone's availability and pricing.

The new mobile phone will be released on shelves at Virgin Mobile Canada in early December, the carrier announced.

The new device arrives on shelves with the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system on board, as well as with support for a wide range of services from Google, as well as with access to applications and games available for download via the Android Market.

The new device also packs a 4.65" HD Super AMOLED display that can deliver an HD resolution, and features a 5-megapixel photo snapper on the back, with support for 1080p video recording.

“The new Galaxy Nexus has it all - sexy shape, unbeatable camera, top notch apps and the highly anticipated Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich platform,” says Andrew Bridge, managing director, Virgin Mobile Canada.

“It's sure to take the top spot on holiday wish lists and with Virgin Mobile you get all of our unbeatable Member benefits too. With Galaxy Nexus™ plus exclusive benefits from day one you can have your ice cream sandwich… and eat it too!”

Virgin Mobile also confirmed that, starting with early December, Canadian mobile phone users will be able to purchase the new device with a no-term contract on the Virgin Mobile SuperTab.

The handset will be made available on the company's entire range of plans, so that users are able to choose the Virgin Mobile SuperTab amount and plan that best fits their needs.

“Samsung's ongoing collaboration with Google has resulted in a next generation smartphone that has both superior functionality and a stunning user-experience,” said Paul Brannen, vice president, Mobile Communications at Samsung Electronics Canada.

“The large, responsive HD SuperAMOLED screen offers users full 720p video playback on the device, and accommodates the new Android 4.0 user interface that is based on soft keys.”

The new Samsung Galaxy Nexus can be seen on Virgin Mobile's website here.
