Virgin Mobile officials announce on the carrier's Facebook webpage that they have plans to add Samsung Intercept to their offering in the coming weeks. While the announcement doesn't specify the exact release date, Virgin Mobile subscribers should be thrilled as this is the first Android smartphone coming from the carrier

It has become usual for carriers and mobile phone manufacturers to leak new information through their less official channels, namely social networking website, such as Facebook and Twitter.

As a matter fact, it seems that these social networking services have become their main news spreading channels.

The last on the list is Virgin Mobile carrier, who just announced that it will offer the Samsung Intercept Android smartphone to their users sometime in the coming weeks.

One of the company's officials posted the message below:

The question of an Android coming to Virgin Mobile has been a hot topic lately here on Facebook. Well, we're happy to confirm that our next handset launch will be the Samsung Intercept. Check out the photo below, get excited, & stay tuned over the next few weeks for more information! The message is followed by a picture presenting the new Samsung Intercept tagged with the Virgin Mobile brand logo.

Samsung Intercept is already available at Sprint and comes with a 3.2-inch touch screen (240 x 400 pixels resolution), QWERTY keyboard, Optical trackpad and Accelerometer sensor for UI auto-rotate.

Other key features of the smartphone include: Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g, 3.0-megapixel camera with autofocus, Android OS, v2.1 (Eclair), Bar code scanner, 3.5 mm audio jack, GPS with A-GPS support, Rev. 0, up to 153.2 Kbps data connectivity, microSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 32GB).

Unfortunately, no information regarding its price tag and date of release has been disclose, but the message says that we should stay tuned for updates.
