Virgin Gaming has announced that it will be the online tournament provider for some of Ubisoft's future multiplayer, following a recently signed partnership between the company. The first game that will be supported by Virgin gaming will be Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Future Soldier, the latest tactical shooter that will come out from the French publisher.

“Ubisoft is one of the leading video game publishers in the world and we are thrilled to offer our members the opportunity to compete in some of their best multiplayer console games,” said Rob Segal, chief executive officer of Virgin Gaming. “Virgin Gaming is a unique convergence of social networking, video games and competitive gaming, and we are excited that Ubisoft shares our vision for the platform and its potential.”

Laurent Detoc, president of Ubisoft North America also commented that, “Ubisoft is thrilled to be partnering with Virgin Gaming on its new venture. We have an exciting lineup of multiplayer titles this year that we believe will be a perfect fit for gamers to play and compete against each other in a tournament setting.”

Virgin Gaming is meant to be a online platform that should ease tournament play for various console games. It provides a competitive environment in which gamers can win prizes and cash. Ghost Recon: Future Soldier is, as its title's suggest, a futuristic take-on the popular gameplay of the franchise. It is the fifth installment in the series. The player is tasked to fight an ultra-nationalist force that has taken over Russia and has started an aggressive expansion of the country's borders.

The title is played mostly from a third person perspective, but the viewpoint also moves to first person when the players goes into cover. A new feature of Future Soldier is the optical camouflage that allows the Ghosts to become invisible for a limited amount of time. Ghost Recon: Future Soldier is coming out on the Xbox 360, the PlayStation 3, the Nintendo Wii and the PC, as well as mobile platforms sometime in 2011.
