Virgin Digital and the Carphone Warehouse have announced their partnership to create a new music download service that aims to enhance the download experience for customers and provide companies with the opportunity to explore new markets.

Virgin Digital will become Carphone Warehouse's exclusive music download partner in the UK and launch the MyMobileMusic website. "This is a fantastic opportunity for both parties to reach music fans with an easy-to-use and quality download service," said Virgin Retails Marketing & New Media Director Steve Kincaid.

The service will be compatible with MP3 player-phones from most manufacturers and a wide range of WMA-compatible mobiles.

Users will be able to download music, with more than 2.5 million individual tracks available, for 79p by simply 'dragging and dropping' a track from the webpage to the shopping basket.

No additional software is needed. In case the user's downloaded music (on the mobile or PC) is lost, because of damage or the devices being stolen, MyMobileMusic also features Music Insurance, which will replace all those downloaded files. There's also a music news service, featured playlists and comprehensive background information on artists and songs.

The Carphone Warehouse Online Director, Andy Brown, added, "The partnership allows us to add value to our customers' online experience and will allow The Carphone Warehouse to benefit from Virgin's Rich musical heritage".

"We know from our experience of working with Virgin Mobile in France as Phone Store, that partnerships with Virgin companies allows us to leverage their brand values and expertise to create compelling content for our enviable customer base."
