The ALS Ice Bucket Challenge fails can turn very dangerous: just ask this woman
The ALS Ice Bucket Challenge fails can turn very dangerous: just ask this woman

The ALS Ice Bucket Challenge started off as a very admirable campaign to raise money and awareness for the ALS Association and thus hopefully find a cure for the disease. These days, it’s nothing more than a way for people to show off online, as the video below will confirm.

The idea for the challenge is that it presents you with 2 choices: once nominated, either you douse yourself in ice water to understand how it feels like to have ALS, albeit for a very short time, or you donate money to the organization.

Useless to say, most people who have done the challenge chose the former because this also offered them the chance to be relatively famous for 15 minutes or less. Don’t fool yourself into thinking differently: many of those who took the Challenge didn’t even know what ALS was, so that’s that for their charitable spirit.

The woman in the video below, whatever her reasons for choosing to do the Challenge, nearly killed herself in the process. She is shown in her parents’ backyard, with her mother in the background, waiting for her cue to pour the ice water on her daughter’s head.

Everything goes as usual until the daughter, seemingly illogical because of the cold water, runs into the house. She slips on the kitchen tiles and smacks her head on the furniture loudly.

She didn’t break her neck but she tells the British media that she came very close to it; it wasn’t until the next day that she felt completely restored in her limbs. She went to the hospital and was assured that all she got was whiplash, but that she came dangerously close to worse.

She says she would do it again, but this time, she would refrain from running away and would just grit her teeth through the uncomfortable feeling provoked by the ice water. She’d be better off if she just donated to charity.
