James Cameron wasn’t never the most subtle filmmaker

“Titanic” truly is the gift that keeps on giving. Even though the movie came out 18 years ago and generated unprecedented (until then) attention from the media, we can still find out new stuff about it to this day – like, for instance, the fact that writer / director James Cameron wanted to include a very cheesy scene at one point.

It is now making the rounds online and is the best suggestion for today’s Viral of the Day.

James Cameron has never been the most subtle filmmaker and this is very obvious in “Titanic,” his biggest critical hit. Though a solid accomplishment in several areas, the blockbuster still dips into pure cheesiness at points because of the dialog.

The cheesiest moment was left on the floor of the editing room, and featured Kathy Bates’ Molly Brown asking for “a little ice” in her glass right after the ship had hit the iceberg. You can even see it behind her in the window: this was Cameron’s best shot at irony.

Last October, the film’s alternate ending came out online and it was just as ridiculous as this scene, if not even more, with old Rose holding the giant blue diamond “prisoner” and threatening everyone to toss it into the sea if they didn’t listen to her preaching about the real “treasures” in life. Or something to that effect.
