Tom gets the answer wrong, finds infamy online

Surprising, hilarious and hilariously bad things happen on TV shows like Jeopardy, but the most inappropriate / creepiest of all times is probably shown in the video below. Or so the Internet seems to think.

This is Tom. Tom managed to provide such a wrong answer to a relatively simple question that he’s now the talk of the Internet.

“In common law, the age of this, signaling adulthood, is presumed to be 14 in boys & 12 in girls,” said the question. The answer he provided was “What is the age of consent?” when it should have been “What is the age of puberty?”

For the record, the age of consent in the US ranges between 16 and 18 for both boys and girls. Having relations with someone younger than this classifies as statutory rape and is punishable by jail time.

Only in countries like Mexico can the age of consent go as low as 12, where the tradition of the child bride is still around.

Because Tom’s first thought was that 12 and 14, respectively, are ages of consent, people assumed that he had a dirty mind - and naturally proceeded to let him know it on dedicated comment forums. It could be that he just spoke before thinking, in a rush to be the first to answer, but even so, this still made for a very uncomfortable TV moment.

Here it is, in all its brief glory.
