That’s the trailer we needed to make sense of the reboot

Universal Pictures is rebooting “Terminator” next year and has even managed to bring Arnold Schwarzenegger on board to reprise his iconic role. I will resist making an “I’ll be back” joke, but only because Arnie does it for me and all of us – and he does it in the first full official trailer for “Genisys,” which is the name of the reboot.

The trailer was released a couple of weeks ago, but instead of getting fans hyped up about the project, it only created more confusion because it added a new layer to an already very complicated mythology – while pretending to stand on its own and have no connection to said mythology.

That was yet another hit-and-miss for the studio, which has only been having those since the press tour for the film started. Because of this, many fans are beginning to believe that “Terminator” should have just been left alone: it (“it” meaning the first two installments, not the entire franchise) is an iconic piece of cinema that is better off in the past, when it was great.

However, if you still have faith in the mistyped “Genisys,” below is the trailer that makes more sense. It’s called “The Paradox Edition” because it will incorporate events from the previous installments. So yes, this one is for the viewing pleasure of fans, and fans only.

This faux trailer is made in the manner of those hilarious and very popular Bad Lip-Synching trailers, but it’s used to shed more light into exactly how “Genisys” will fit in with existent mythology. Hint: it’s not looking good for this film.

“Terminator: Genisys” stars Emilia Clarke, Jai Courtney, Jason Clarke, and Matt Smith, and is directed by Alan Taylor, the man behind the two “Thor” movies from Marvel.
