Perhaps one of man’s biggest pet peeves is embarrassing himself or herself in public. Falling out of a chair at an event that hundreds, if not thousands of people are watching is high on that list, so one can only imagine how singer Sir Elton John must have felt when it happened to him.

The whole thing went down (pun intended) on Sunday at a charity tennis match held at Royal Albert Hall, between Team Elton John and Team Billie Jean King, in an effort to raise money and awareness for the singer’s AIDS Foundation.

At one point during the event, John went to his chair on the sideline and sat down, but something went terribly wrong because he didn’t just topple backwards, feet up in the air – he even managed to knock down 2 other chairs in his desperate attempt to grab onto something and prevent the fall.

The fall wasn’t prevented, and the video below shows the awkward moment that followed shortly afterwards, as help was on the way, while he just lied there on his back: reporters were struggling between laughing and voicing concern, holding off the giggles until they verified he was ok.

Elton John was eventually picked up off the floor and he dusted himself off and continued with the show. He wasn’t hurt, but I have a feeling his ego might have taken a bruising, and to make matters worse, his team was also beaten 22 to 16.

His hit “I’m Still Standing” will be playing in my head on a loop today, you can count on it. Yeah yeah yeah.
