Today, Katy Perry is one of the best-selling pop artists on the scene, which makes her one of the hottest celebrities around as well. She’s gorgeous, she’s talented and she’s very relatable – and a video that surfaced a few days ago proves that she was always like that.

Posted to Vimeo by Jim Standridge, an Emmy-winning film and video producer, the video was shot in 2001, when Katy was just getting started with her music career. At the time, she was singing gospel because secular music was a rarity in her home, because her strictly religious parents had banned it.

Clocking in at over 12 minutes, the video is part of a 90-minute documentary film that Standridge shot as Katy performed across the country, while she was on stage and in her most unguarded moments, in her trailer.

You will find it embedded below. The footage sees Katy doing her hair and explaining why she’s piling on makeup (she has bad skin), preparing for a show and talking about whether she’s nervous, crying because she misses her parents and generally being an adorable goofball.

However, what fans will probably appreciate the most is the footage of Katy on stage, with her band and her guitar, singing songs she wrote and pouring her soul into the performance.

As Standridge says, the video proves that “Katy has grown into an amazing entertainer and woman,” so it’s definitely a pleasure to watch.
