14 DAY TRIAL // The awards season hasn’t yet begun, but we already know which actors, directors, and films are strong competitors in the Oscars race, or at the very least, we already know which the favorites of industry heavyweights are. This is what the Hollywood Film Awards 2014 was all about.
The gala, which took place on Friday night, was the perfect occasion to celebrate some of the productions (and the people involved in them) considered shoe-ins for the Oscars. Johnny Depp isn’t in the running, but he somehow managed to make a lasting impression with his appearance.
And that’s because he showed up either drunk or stoned out of his mind, if you believe what people are saying online. That he wasn’t exactly himself is obvious from the video embedded below, which has already gone viral.
Useless to say, the impression he made wasn’t of the positive kind.
Depp, who attended the event sans fiancée Amber Heard, stepped up on stage to present Shep Gordon with the Hollywood Documentary Award, but made a fool of himself by slurring his words, struggling to stand upright, and being barely able to read the words on the teleprompter.
He also had trouble with his microphone, which was too weird-looking for his taste, but the worst was yet to come. At one point, his speech got so awkward that CBS cut away from him and ran footage from Gordon’s documentary, probably in the hope that he’d get the message.
