Footage that landed Momoa a major role on “Game of Thrones” season 1 emerges online, goes viral immediately

You have no shortage of deaths on HBO’s “Game of Thrones,” but I suspect few other characters are as missed as Khal Drogo is. Played on season 1 of the hit show by Jason Momoa, Drogo was as handsome as he was beastly, courageous, and fearless.

He wasn’t Khal for no reason, tell you what.

The audition tape that got Momoa the part has emerged online and gone viral, and seeing how intense it is, it’s no wonder it’s getting this much traction online with fans of the series.

At the time he auditioned for the part, Momoa had the physical aspect required for the role, but he still had to prove himself worthy of playing such an impressive man. He didn’t know Dothraki at the time, the fictional language of Drogo’s people, so he did his second best: he performed the haka.

Haka is an ancestral war cry from the Maori people of New Zealand, and as you can see for yourself after comparing the audition video to a famous scene from “Game of Thrones,” it came very close to Dothraki. More importantly, Momoa managed to convey this impression of brute force that was required for the part.

And the rest is history, as they say.

*Please note that discretion is recommended when viewing the second video, as it contains images of violence that might offend.

Jason Momoa will be seen next on the big screen as Aquaman, hopefully in Zack Snyder’s 2015 “Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice,” where he’s expected to make a cameo. He will be getting his standalone film later on.

For many fans, including myself, he will always be Khal Drogo. That role really did fit him like a glove, didn’t it?
