14 DAY TRIAL // “Friends” remains to this day one of the most iconic sitcoms: it ran for 10 full seasons and even though it ended over a decade ago, fans are still hoping for some kind of reunion, whether on the big screen or on the small one, if only for a special / one-time event.
Chances of that happening are slim to none, as every one of the 6 cast members has said on various occasions in recent years: Monica, Rachel, Phoebe, Joey, Chandler and Ross and the story of their friendship are locked in the past and would never come back to life again.
Not that this is stopping fans from nurturing hope for a reunion, for some reason.
Nerdist’s most recent video - and my suggestion for today’s Viral of the Day - capitalizes on this constant demand for a comeback from the most famous and beloved cast in the history of scripted programming. However, in doing so, it puts a different spin on it.
Have you ever wondered what these 6 friends would be like if they lived in our present time? Or how the series would be if some network executive thought rebooting it would be a good idea, like they did with “Beverly Hills 90210”?
Well, we’d probably get a show like the one teased in the first video below: this is the famous “Friends” intro remade with characters recognizable from our everyday reality. We have the selfie addict, the hipster, the artist-type, the usual lack of interpersonal communication we see every day, because we’re all too busy with our phones and other gadgets to actually interact with one another.
Turns out “Friends” would not be too much fun if it were rebooted. For comparison, the second video is the original intro.
