Dove shows stark differences between how women view themselves and how others see them

A couple of days ago, Dove released a new ad which perfectly fits into their larger campaign on female beauty and how it comes in all shapes and sizes. The Dove Real Beauty Sketches ad is so amazing that I decided to include it in our Viral of the Day series.

Women (just like men) are plagued by insecurities, which are only made worse by the mixed messages they receive from the media (mostly) on how they should look and behave.

The reality is that women’s image of themselves is oddly different from the one others have of them, and this is precisely what Dove aims to show with the clip – with some help from a former forensic artist with the San Diego police.

“Women are their own worst beauty critics. Only 4% of women around the world consider themselves beautiful... we decided to conduct a compelling social experiment that explores how women view their own beauty in contrast to what others see,” Dove says.

I know this is an ad meant to convince me to buy their products but, still, I think it’s a wonderful, powerful, and touching message sent out to millions of women dealing with insecurities every day of their life.
