People need to learn how to pronounce David Oyelowo’s name

Brad Pitt is better off sticking to the day job: over the weekend, the handsome actor presented David Oyelowo with the Breakthrough Performer of the Year Award at the Palm Springs International Film Festival, and he tried to lead a sing-along meant to help audiences learn how to pronounce his name.

Apparently, it’s “Oh-yellow-oh.”

You can see video of the attempted (and failed) sing-along below: it’s already causing serious waves online, with fans either appreciating Pitt’s willingness to show his goofy fun side or feeling sorry for the moment he did do that through singing.

Because, let’s be real, Brad might be a lot of great things, but a singer he is not. However, he does deserve credit for taking it upon himself to educate audiences who have probably seen Oyelowo’s performance in “Selma” and were won over by it, and who probably had some issues with his name.

Hearing him talk so warmly about a “newcomer” (though Oyelowo has been working in the industry for years, it’s just now that he’s getting his big break), and pretty much using his star power to back him up, was also amazing.

So this attempted sing-along was at the border of awkward and awesome. Fellow stars in attendance included Steve Carrell, Julianne Moore, Benedict Cumberbatch, Reese Witherspoon and Michael Keaton, and the video makes it look as if they really enjoyed the moment. Check it out.
