Vine Linux, a distribution with a highly customized Japanese environment in which are included a lot of applications supporting Kanji-Strings, is now at version 6.1 Alpha.

According to the developers, Vine Linux 6.1 Alpha will be followed by several Beta versions and at least one Release Candidate before a final version is lauched.

Highlights of Vine Linux 6.1 Alpha:

· Linux kernel was updated to version 3.0, from 2.6.35; · xorg-x11 was updated to 2.1.7.0, providing support for the Sandybridge platform; · Postfix was updated to 2.8.9; · PostgreSQL was updated to 9.0.7; · Mozilla Firefox 10.0.2 is installed as default web browser; · Mozilla Thunderbird 10.0.0 is the default email client; · LibreOffice 3.4.5; · Adobe Flash Plugin 11.1; · Latest OpenJDK 6 runtime.
