Twitter-owned Vine Labs today introduced a new version of its video-loop social network app, Vine 2.0.1 for iPhone and iPad, adding an all-new VM feature described as “a new way to have fun and easy video conversations with friends.” The Twitter app also got an update with fixes.

Vine 2.0.1 is the network’s biggest update yet and includes Vine Messages, or VMs for short. It’s not exactly FaceTime, as you have to actually send your message over and wait for your recipient to reply, but it’s something that can shake a stick at WhatsApp, I presume. The new option, “Messages,” is conveniently placed in the navigation menu.

“Vine messages are one to one. You can send a Vine message to multiple people to start several separate conversations at once,” says the developer. “Vine messages aren’t limited by your Vine contacts, either - you can send a VM to anyone via email or SMS, even if they’re not part of the Vine community.”

Users can now customize their profile with colors, and the update also includes some bug fixes and performance improvements. Twitter 6.3.2 was also released today with bug fixes. Both apps can be found on the App Store via the links below.
