The actor dismissed the rumors and declared: "I'm not gonna put it out there on a magazine cover like some other actors. I come from the Harrison Ford, Marlon Brando, Robert De Niro, Al Pacino code of silence."

Leaving that aside, the movie is about a mobster (Giacomo 'Fat Jack' DiNorscio played by Diesel) who defends himself in a never ending trial. The facts presented in the movie are part of real time history, as DiNorscio's trial is the longest one to take place in the U.S.
For the part Diesel had to quit his daily training routine and gain weight. He also had to get some hair. The actor stated: "I sat in a room for weeks doing nothing; just eating and becoming my character. For me to go that long without working out, and not having the body that I built my identity around, drove me pretty close to crazy for a while. But it was fun walking around... parading my gut for the cast."
