Actor Vin Diesel will star as Agent 47, in 20th Century Fox's upcoming adaptation of "Hitman", the best-selling video game franchise from Eidos and developer IO Interactive, reports Reuters.

The movie is produced by Charles Gordon and Adrian Askarieh, Diesel will be executive producer and Daniel Alter will co-produce

"'Hitman' is a project that by the virtue of its DNA can and will reach far beyond its already substantial core audience," said Adrian Askarieh, who will serve as a producer. "The canvas on which this adventure takes place is something that movie audiences have embraced for the last 40 years."

"Video games not only provide great stories and characters and high-concept action that translates well to feature films, but they appeal to the No. 1 demographic of filmgoers," Askarieh said. "The same people who go to the movies on a regular basis and buy DVDs also play games."

The first three games in the franchise have sold more than 10 million units. Eidos plans to release another sequel, "Hitman: Blood Money," this fall

I'm an avid Hitman Gamer. Vin Deisel is the wrong man for the role, This role clearly belongs to Jason Statham for 2 reasons:

1: Jason is the right buuild for the role.
2: Jason is a far better actor the deisel.

I think that the casting directors should for once listen to the public and get the right actor for the role!!!!!!!

I agree it should definitely be Jason Statham...he already has a British accent too. Besides Vin Deisel doesn't really come across as someone smart enough to pull off the hits Agent 47 does.

In the end, the movie was mediocre and Vin wasn't part of it

Vin diesel is the best action star ever realized myself, but he has got not that sort of Silent assassination sense or the calmness and cold-blood hit man's character should have, actually he's all about bouncing, running and race-atmospheres. Jason is all about it yeah, Jason "CAN" look cold-blooded and has the eyes-of-fury look!!! nevertheless, I Hate Jason for his superficial acting

To begin, Timothy Olyphant did a great job in the original movie, and as was noted in the credits, Vin Diesel was a producer, and thus had great imput to that movie. I have several of Vin's Riddick DVD's which are also great. I have watched the Hitman DVD so many times that I found a number of editing errors, while I haven't been able to find them in the Riddick DVD's. The games themselves have evolved, and in Bloodmoney, the available methods of demise were greatly improved over previous versions. What will be the most important factor is the storyline. While the original movie showed a map of where Agent47 had been, they really only had two missions in the movie, and no real connection to any the stories from any of the games or a time from between missions, such as the novel "Hitman:Enemy Within" by William C. Dietz, did have as tie in to Bloodmoney. We have chomping at the bit for Hitman: Absolution, I am still hoping that they put in a transition mission from where he was in China going into the backroom at the end of Bloodmoney and what "interesting things" he had heard about, that would then send him to Chicago where he starts by crashing through a window in a library in Absolution. Vin will have to be subtle, and if the timeline is after the missions that were in the original movie, they will need make sure that the continuity factor is well done, and Agent47 will need to 'clean house' to find the ones who had set him up, which will make for a great story!
