Confirmed: Vin Diesel will voice Groot in Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy”

Some time ago, Vin Diesel managed to set the blogosphere on fire by teasing fans on his Facebook page that he’d been invited to a secret meeting with Marvel, which could only have meant that he was about to be asked to join the ever-expanding Marvel universe.

As it turns out, this is precisely the case – but the part he auditioned for perhaps isn’t among your choices.

Diesel will be part of the upcoming “Guardians of the Galaxy” but don’t look for him onscreen. He will be voicing the tree Groot, he confirms for the LA Times.

As for such an odd choice (fans were betting on Doctor Strange, Daredevil, Thanos or Black Panther), Vin says why not.

“I’m an actor. I can do whatever the [expletive] I want. As an actor, not everything has to be the most obvious choice. And sometimes, the best thing you can do — as far as Steven Spielberg and his advice — is to defy expectations,” he says.

“So if everybody thinks you’re going to go for this one thing and you flip it entirely and go for the strangest Marvel character, it’s interesting. And when something is interesting, it’s inspiring,” the actor adds.

“Guardians of the Galaxy” drops next year.
