
Victor Edward Willis, former lead singer from the Village People has found the way from Y.M.C.A to J.A.I.L.
Willis, who was wanted by the police on a $15,000 felony warrant for possession of narcotics, was arrested during a traffic stop in Daly City, California, when some drugs and a pistol were discovered in his convertible Corvette.
The former „cop" and Village People singer has initially tried to lie the police about his name and adress, as he did not have a valid driver's license, but then he revealed his identity as star of the band.
Willis was previously sent to San Mateo County jail on suspicion of six felony counts, including driving with a suspended license, possession of a firearm and transporting cocaine, but he later paid $100,000 bail and was released.
Former disco star and co-writer for the biggest hits of the Village Pople, was convicted of possessing narcotics in 1990 and acquitted three years later of raping a woman after she ended their one-week relationship. Willis will go back to court on August 16.
The Village People was formed in 1977 and included the Cop, the Native American (Felipe Rose), the Soldier (Alex Briley), the Construction Worker (David Hodo), the Cowboy (Jeff Briley) and the Biker (Eric Anzalone).
Victor Edward Willis, co-writer for "Y.M.C.A," "Macho Man" and "In the Navy", left the band in 1979, and was replaced in the Cop role by Ray Simpson, who remains the band's lead singer today.
