Brace yourselves, the end of the world is upon us. Again. Thus, the Viking apocalypse is scheduled to take place this coming Saturday, February 22, and, by the looks of it, it will be a sight to behold.

According to Norse mythology, it will be on said date that a great battle that will bring upon the end of the world as we know it will occur.

Gods, men and all the races of the nine worlds will take part in this battle, which is to be followed by a series of natural disasters and the world's becoming submerged.

In Viking mythology, the apocalypse is dubbed the Ragnarok. It will begin when a wolf called Fenrir breaks out of his prison, and will comprise several events.

As detailed on the official website for a festival which is to be held in the city of York, in the United Kingdom, to mark this occasion, “Ragnarok will begin when the wolf, Fenrir, son of Loki, breaks free of his imprisonment.”

“This will lead to a chain reaction of events including the Midgard snake Jormungand rising from the sea and a wolf devouring the sun.”

Furthermore, “Everything will come to a head in a huge battle that draws in the Gods, men and all the races of the nine worlds.”

According to Daily Mail, just two gods and two humans are to survive this epic battle and the natural disasters accompanying it. Once the world resurfaces, these two lucky fellows will get the chance to repopulate the earth.

Just in case the story about how the world will end on Saturday proves inaccurate, the 30th Jorvik Viking Festival that began in York on February 15 has been planned to last until February 23.

Apart for patiently awaiting the apocalypse, people attending this festival can take part in several contests such as Strongest Viking and Best Beard.
