If you want to check into your favorite TV shows and get rewards from Best Buy, Burger King, Fandango, Old Navy and others, download the new Viggle app from iTunes now - it’s free!

Viggle, a Function(x) company, today announced its first free app for iPhone, iPad, iPod touch. Using a proprietary show matching feature, it rewards people with gift cards, movie tickets, music and more for checking into TV shows.

Viggle allows its partners (the content providers) to reach different demographics and present their brands in contextually relevant ways. This can mean anything from games, quizzes and polls, to downloads and videos that are related to the consumers and what they’re watching.

Currently, Viggle handles live, recorded and online TV content from more than 150 channels, but more is added daily, according to the developers.

The app uses the integrated microphone of the iDevice to determine what the viewer is watching on television.

Commenting on their new release, Chris Stephenson, president of Function(x), said, “We’re excited that Viggle is now in the hands of passionate TV viewers. And, we’re lucky to be working with networks and brands who really understand the connection people have with the shows they love.”

“Everyone wins here—consumers get rewarded for their loyalty and networks and brand partners are able to connect with Viggle users in relevant and meaningful ways,” added Stephenson.

“At USA, we are committed to expanding the ways our fans engage with great content beyond their TV viewing experience,” said Jesse Redniss, senior vice president, digital, USA Network. “By connecting to Viggle, we are able to offer access to more compelling engagement, participation and affinity rewards that extend our viewers’ access across multiple touch points.”

Viggle requires iOS 4.0 or later and works with most iDevices.
