Okami, on the other hand, has already traded hands

Hideki Kamiya may be the founder of Platinum Games, but he is better known as the creator of some of the most original and interesting IPs out there. These include the likes of Devil May Cry and Okami, but also the cheeky Viewtiful Joe. After the original idea was conceived, Capcom was the one that took responsibility for continuing the work and turning the ideas into a series. Since then, Kamiya has moved past his earlier creations, but always felt reluctant to let go of them completely. Still, while we would have loved to make sequels for some of them, he believes that there would be "no point."

Kamiya talked to Game Informer and said that, "Up until very recently I really felt someday I wanted to make a sequel to Okami, and there were others who wanted me to as well. But then the other day I heard the announcement that someone else would be making a sequel and now I'm just not interested in it anymore."

"Once someone else touches a world that you yourself created it stops being yours," he added. "There is no point in making a sequel when the world doesn't belong to you. Viewtiful Joe is probably all I've got left. That story is incomplete so I'd like to finish it someday. But that would probably be the most difficult one to do [laughs]."

The reason for which Capcom hasn't already embarked on the Joe money-train is because the game wasn't such an instant hit like Okami or DMC. The title proved to be very well received by critics and applauded for its concept, but only saw a moderate success as far as sales went.

Since then, Joe shunned from the stage's spotlight, and the only appearance he made was the brief one in Tatsunoko vs. Capcom: Ultimate All-Stars and, as one of Kamiya's last soulful possessions, it looks like he's safe in the hands of his creator. At the moment, Capcom producer Jun Takeuchi announced that the company had no further plans for Viewtiful Joe, so it looks like Kamiya will be able to take his time and finish his story.
