Not too long after introducing the VP series of LCD monitors that used the IPS panels and were designed for business professionals, Viewsonic released two more home and small office monitors, this time paying more attention to the areas of power efficiency and image clarity in order to allow a smoother and more productive application running. The new displays from Viewsonic are the VX1932wm-LED and VA705b LCD monitors, both of which are Energy Star 5.0 compliant.

The VX1932wm-LED is a 19-inch, stylish, slim bezel monitor, which has a MEGA dynamic contrast ratio of 10,000,000:1 and a mercury-free WLED backlight. The WLED automatically detects image signals and controls backlight brightness in order to allow for an increased color purity and sharpness even at resolutions of 1440x900 pixels.

These display capabilities are complemented by the monitor's compliance with the Energy Star 5.0 and TCO 5.0 specifications (it consumes only 15W), making the product ideal for low-cost and eco-friendly computing. This low power consumption is especially notable, considering the fact that the VX1932wm has built-in, 2W speakers. The VX1932wm-LED may connect to the PC via D-sub and DVI ports.

The second monitor in this line is the 17-inch VA705b, a highly capable LCD display, which can render smooth and crystal-clear, brilliant colors. Having a smaller form factor than the VX1932wm, it fits easily into any desktop space, making it a good option for office tasks that make use of a large desk space. The display has 250nits of brightness, which give additional image clarity, and comes with an OSD power lock to secure the screen settings.

Coupling the good display resolution of 1280x1024 with the low power consumption of 21W makes the VA705b very well suited for small office, education and government uses, especially considering the Kensington security port, which even adds theft deterrence. The VA705b does not have a DVI output, but may still connect to the PC through a D-sub.

"We take the environment seriously and make great efforts to develop products that offer the latest in high-quality display technology and efficiency," Jeff Volpe, vice president and general manager of Viewsonic Americas, said. "We are proud to announce that our new VX1932wm-LED and VA705b LCD monitors meet the stringent Energy Star 5.0 requirements, helping to save our customers' money on both monthly electricity bills and on product replacement costs."

The VA705b has a minor estimated price of $149, whereas the VX1932wm is priced at $169.
